It Was 30 Years Ago...
Chock full of riffy goodness, this month is the anniversary of the release of this album. Today's Boston Globe has a fantastic point/counterpoint about the virtues and vices of this 70s classic. My favorite assertion in this conversation? The theory that Cobain quoted this riff for "Smells Like Teen Spirit". You know it's possible, you can hear it echoing in your head. Admit it.
Turn it up, play it loud, air guitar until you're giddy with glee.

Hard to believe it's been 30 years. I think this album is great. I'm working on a list of my top 100 and this one is definitely on it.
Thanks for the link to the Globe give-and-take piece. I'm planning to link to it (if Blogger will ever cooperate).

God I love that album. That's the big guns that I pull out when I'm depressed and need something that will instantly transport me back to being 18 and carefree. I listened to this album almost every day when I went running all through college...and never got tired of it.
In fact, I could karaoke any of these songs and know the lyrics by heart. It amazes my boyfriend. :)
As good as that album was (is), it's amazing how bad Boston was when you went to see them live. They definitely benefitted from being in a studio.
I got the greatest hit album just recently. I never needed to own one before my radio broke. Just turn on a classic rock station and wait. It won't take long.
I remember my uncle having this album when I was a kid and just staring at it and loving the art. More than a feeling is one of the great 'classic' songs!
I've never told anyone this, but I have some Boston on my iPod. Hahahah... I feel like I've got a dirty secret.
I never appreciated their music all that much, but it DID influence me. I think I was too young when it first came out. But my older sister was a huge fan. And I remember her playing this album almost constantly for months, and I remember the album cover gracing our living room for longer than I wish to recall.
To this day, the entire genre of music is lost on me. Overwrought 70s rockers just don't make my ears happy. I know, I'm a crotchety music fan.
