The Last Songs on the Soundtrack
I know, I'm supposed to be working on a spring mix for EDW, and I am, I promise. But, reading the music blogs at lunch, I came across this link, a funny article about a subject I've actually had more than one conversation about in my lifetime.
Call me morbid, but what songs do YOU want played at your funeral? The book and movie "High Fidelity" touch on this topic briefly, and the list generated is great. Admit it, you all have a song (or two, or three...) that you want people to listen to when you die. I have three.
1. Keep Me in Your Heart For a While, Warren Zevon. The concluding track to his album The Wind, which he wrote and recorded as he was dying from mesotheliomia. It kills me, every time.
2. Days, Elvis Costello. This is actually a Kinks song, but this cover appeared on the soundtrack to Wim Wenders' movie, Until the End of the World. I never saw the movie, but I wore out two copies of the soundtrack back in the day.
3. Ripple, the Grateful Dead. "If I knew the way/I would take you home..."
So, share yours in the comments. No, I'm not depressed; the article just reminded me of this list.

Are you kidding? I love this topic.
My mom wants Rubber Soul played, especially "Norwegian Wood". She also wants open bar and passed hors d'oeuvres. She's a piece of work, my mom.
I want "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds played after the prayers at my grave...I'm such a product of the 80's. I still feel the same way about The Breakfast Club watching it now as I did then.
I'm sure I have others...I'd have to think about it.
I want John Cale's version of 'Hallelujah' and 'Highway To Hell' from AC/DC, maybe right after each other.
That's all I got right now.
I have always loved the raw acoustic version of GEORGE HARRISON singing All Things Must Pass on the Apple Albums. Brilliant. poetic, beautiful.
You know what? I've come to the realization that what I want played is irrelevant. I'm dead, so it doesn't matter to me anymore.
How I came to this realization was already a post on my blog so I won't use up space here.
The song that hits me the hardest is "Brokedown Palace". I used it in the
tribute video I made after my best friend died.
Just put iTunes on shuffle and let it run till you get sick of it ;)
Zevon's cover of "Knocking on Heaven's Door" is also awesome.
A good friend of mine wants U2, "Beautiful day" played at her funeral. Her mother is a rabid Catholic and forbade such action so my duty, when the time comes, is to ensure said track is played.
"Her mother is a rabid Catholic and forbade such action so my duty, when the time comes, is to ensure said track is played."
Huh? Since when are Catholics anti-U2? I went to 6 years of Catholic schooling and I never heard that part of the doctrine.
How's about Death Cab's "I Will Follow You Into the Dark"?
