Autism is a genetically based, neurological pervasive developmental disorder that has been documented in medical literature world wide for DECADES.
There is no cure for autism.
There are treatments, but no cure. Early intervention, between the ages of 3 and 7, in language and social skills has proven to be the most effective.
Autism is not bad behavior. It is not bad parenting. It is NOT a fraud, you malicious, self-serving, ill-informed fuck.
Pray that it's never your child, your grandchild.

Wow. Even Bettleheim backed off the "bad parenting" theory so far that he actually apologized to parents for all the damage he'd done.
And after how many years of research, I still have to tell a parent (next week, in fact) that this is what's wrong with her baby and that there's not much we know about it, but we're going to try our damndest to help.
This guy is not known for his intelligence. He's akin to a shock-jock and he's shocked everyone around.
The news in the area is that they are looking to Imus him for such hate speech.
There are a number of groups in the Bay Area who are coming together to roust him out of the business. The complete factual errors and gross misleading statements are at issue.
While there ARE people who play the system, anyone who has dealt with a kid (or adult) with ADD or ADHD knows only too well it is not an attitude issue. The best folks realize there is an issue and do what they can to ASSIST the child or adult rather than blame them. The best folks WITH ADD/ADHD don't use it as an excuse either. I know plenty of adults who USE their "talent" of ADD to their advantage.
Of course, people like this guy and HIS attitude do not help.

ya know...see what happens when I forget to lock the computer while making dinner and leave what WAS a grounded teenager (for the night due to behavior) "reading" in the living room? If he thought being grounded for the night was bad, he's gonna REALLY dislike not having net privileges for a looong time. Perchance I should break out the writing tablet and a pen for recitations of "I will not make my mother look bad on the net"?
I DID teach the kid something though, Savage is a moron, ADD/HD folks aren't to blame---and not too far off, Autism is NOT bad behavior. I'm all for opinion of talk show folks, but when they spew hatred and claim to "know" and send people off to do what they claim---I have a problem. When are people going to "get it" that being angry at kids, "forcing them to behave" doesn't work?
