You Were My Sun...

My esteemed partner in crime at my other website considers this to be the best burn song ever. He's obsessed with it. He's got a point.

Just Like A Tattoo

I know, the pop is just oozing everywhere, but I love this song for the chorus.

Another one from Liz's and my ever-evolving collaborative mix. Figured out the theme yet?

It's These Blessings So Hard To See Sometimes

Liz and I added this song to the mix yesterday. I'm going to see them tonight, and she says this song is "my" Gaslight Anthem song, mostly because I think they ripped off Billy Bragg and Wilco completely when they wrote this (see here), and I had a temper tantrum about it when she and Nick were here for Bruce in the spring.

At any rate, despite the plagiarism, I still love this band, and am really excited to be hanging out with one of the indie kids tonight. This is an indie kid type of show.

And, it goes on the mix.

When This Train Ends, I'll Try Again

From the soundtrack to a fantastic movie. This is the track that made me rethink Skynyrd "in all its misunderstood glory," to quote Patterson Hood. This is playing in the scene when the party at the moontower is breaking up, and my sister Cat actually started ending all of her parties with it as well.

It fits, for many reasons.

Another "mix" selection.

Was there a movie soundtrack better than this? Seriously?

A Notebook Full of Dry, White Pages

Feeling the lack of the blogging fire lately, so I need to jump start this. When I blogged every day in 2008, I managed to find something to say, whether it be in words, or pictures, or music. Right now, it's music, because music ALWAYS says what I want to say, in some form.

Liz and I have been working on a collaborative mix. Keeps us connected, and reflecting across the miles. I won't tell you the specific theme, and the song I'm posting today is not the most illustrative example of the theme, but once you figure out what we're saying, you'll find this choice an interesting one. Plus, any song that begins with the line, "I dreamed about killing you again last night, and it felt alright to me..." needs to have a place of honor SOMEWHERE.

Every song I post has something to say, to someone. I think this one, I'm talking to myself.

From Wilco's "Summerteeth" album, which is glorious.

Nineteen Songs

So Tesco tagged me. Which is unusual, since he rarely plays along with that kind of thing. However, he's going to get mix cd's out of the deal, so I'm sure that was a primary motivator. The rules are as follows:

1. Choose 19 of the songs you like best, regardless of artist or genre.
2. Put them all together in a CD.
3. Make 5 other copies.
4. Post your playlist on your blog.
5. Choose 5 people and send them a copy of your CD each. Send the first copy you made to the one who tagged you.

So, here are my 19 songs. They are all over the place, so hang on.
1. Keep Hangin' On - Husker Du
2. Badge - Cream
3. 99 Problems - Jay-Z (or any mashup/remix of that song, like the Dangermouse or Linkin Park versions)
4. Southtown Girls - The Hold Steady
5. Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
6. Ohio - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young
7. Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen
8. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
9. Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
10. Norweigian Wood - The Beatles
11. Kiss Off - the Violent Femmes
12. The River - Bruce Springsteen
13. The Chain - Fleetwood Mac
14. Times Like These - the Foo Fighters
15. Judas Cradle - Sugar
16. Evolve - Ani DiFranco
17. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart - Wilco
18. When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin
19. Next Time Round - Elvis Costello and the Imposters

There's a few on his mix that I really enjoy as well, so I'm looking forward to receiving it. As for my tags, well, they're the obvious choices, to me anyway:
Ernie
Jason
White Man in Hammersmith (MJ)
Jaichan
Joe

I'll also accept random solicitations. Those of you tagged, who don't know how to find me in real life to send a cd (also, I need to send you all one), email me, and I'll send you the stats.

Have fun!

Spring Mix

Forsythia, originally uploaded by crau1971.

Care of Muxtape.

Click that link, and you can play them right from the screen. All of the songs remind me of spring, some old, some new, all very cool, and all in HEAVY rotation on my iPod this spring.

Now, if the weather would just cooperate, I could really get into the spring feeling.

New Toy

Muxtape.

I haven't had the chance to register or upload any mixes of my own, yet; however, this looks like it could be way fun. I also don't see a way to download a complete mix. But, a great site to have open while working away from your iTunes.

Every Mix Tape is a Love Letter

Over on the other site, MJ is talking about his mix tape all stars, from the 80s. I'm headed over there to comment further; however, I wanted to leave you with this completely amazing, and accurate, image. Plus a new twist on an old favorite.

My all stars will be hanging out over there. Stop on by.
